Professional Experience
Grant has over 11 years experience practising exclusively as an insurance and risk management lawyer.He has acted as an advisor to a broad range of local and overseas insurance companies, self insurers and brokers.
He specialises in professional indemnity and financial lines claims, but also has considerable experience advising on and defending public and product liability, industrial special risks, directors and officers and general insurance claims.
Grant’s experience includes:
Professional Indemnity
- Advising as Coverage Counsel in multiple claims against a financial advisor that subsequently went into liquidation; Representing various insured financial advisors in claims before the Financial Ombudsman Service;
- Acting for a mortgage originator in multiple sets of proceedings involving allegedly fraudulent mortgages;
- Advising insurers in respect to ASIC investigations of insured financial brokers;
- Liaising with ASIC in relation to ASIC’s investigation processes and mandatory notification to clients of financial advisors;
- Acting for accountants in claims arising from allegedly negligent taxation and investment advice;
- Acting for civil and structural engineers, construction companies, architects and hydraulic engineers in building disputes; and
- Advising on coverage for and defending claims against insurance brokers.
Casualty and Public Liability
- Acting for a former Commonwealth contractor providing immigration detention facility services involving complex claims of alleged psychiatric injury and disputed questions of causation of injury;
- Acting for real estate agents and managing agents in relation to accidents at commercial premises including advising on the effect of indemnity and insurance provisions in management agency agreements; and
- Defending a wide variety of personal injury claims under home and contents policies, professional indemnity policies and general and public and products liability policies.
Industrial Special Risks
- Advising insurers on business interruption claims arising out of the Varanus Island gas explosion and collapse of the Cross City Tunnel.
