Professional experience

Steve Joined Lee & Lyons in November 2008. Steve has developed expertise in litigating both claims and policy disputes arising under professional indemnity, public and product liability, property and industrial special risks policies. Before joining Lee & Lyons Steve practiced in London as an insurance litigation lawyer specialising in professional indemnity and worked within a Lloyd's Managing Agent managing professional indemnity, general liability and contractors all risk accounts.

Steve's recent experience includes:

Professional Indemnity

• Defended a firm of engineers in ICC arbitration proceedings initiated by an international contractor. The contractor alleged the engineers had been negligent in calculating steelwork quantities for a design and construct tender bid to rehabilitate a highway bridge located in South Korea.
• Defended a firm of architects in a multi-party dispute arising from cracking which developed around windows in a luxury apartment development.
• Acting on behalf of underwriters in relation to a multi-million dollar coverage dispute arising from the actions of a manager of a mortgage fund.

Public and Products Liability

• Defended mechanical services contractors under a Combined General Liability Policy against property damage and business interruption claims arising from flooding damage caused to an investment bank.
• Defending an engineering contractor against third party claims arising from subsidence damage caused to road and rail infrastructure located adjacent to a construction site.
• Defending several claims against hotels arising from the actions of security contractors.
• Managed US class action litigation brought against construction contractors arising out of the failure of the levees in New Orleans, USA.
• Defended sporting goods retailer against third party claims allegedly arising from the supply of defective sporting equipment.

Property/ISR

• Acting for plant and machinery underwriters in a policy dispute arising from damage to a crane.
• Acting for underwriters in relation to property and stock loss claims arising from a hail storm.
