Professional experience

Jamie joined Lee & Lyons as a senior associate in January 2009. He specialises in professional indemnity, casualty and public liability, and property claims. Jamie has over 9 years experience in insurance law and has worked for a London based underwriting agency.

Jamie commenced his career as a claims manager for a mutual liability fund (RiskPool) in New Zealand. He then worked as an assistant solicitor for an underwriting agency (PI Direct) in London for 2.5 years before emigrating to Australia where he was employed as an associate with Thomson Playford Lawyers for 5 years.

Jamie's recent professional indemnity experience includes

• Jamie acted for the insurers of an accountant in a claim involving allegations of failure to recommend the transfer of trust assets to beneficiaries of the trust before they passed away so as to avoid stamp duty and a capital gains liability payable by the subsequent beneficiaries.
• Jamie acted in a number of claims involving a defunct valuation company. The claims involved allegations of a failure to provide accurate valuations of real property in Sydney.
• Jamie acted for the professional indemnity insurer of a lawyer who was alleged to have failed to advise his client of the improvidence of entering into multiple mortgages with the funds being for the benefit of third parties.
• Jamie acted for the insurers of a property manager who failed to identify and remedy defects in a balcony railing which collapsed. The Plaintiff who was leaning against the railing fell four stories to the ground and sustained serious injuries.
• During his time in London, Jamie was responsible for managing claims against a host of professionals including architects, engineers, surveyors, insurance brokers and lawyers.

Jamie's recent casualty and public liability experience includes

• Acting in numerous personal injury claims against a number of organisations including volunteer organisations, absentee landlords, centre managers and cleaning companies. These disputes have arisen in various jurisdictions in Australia including New South Wales, Victoria, Queensland and South Australia.

Jamie's recent property/industrial special risks experience includes

• Acting in a plant damage and business interruption claim in Queensland.
